With the four-year contract signing of defender Tosin Adarabioyo, Chelsea has completed their first acquisition under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge. 

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has become the first signing of the Enzo Maresca reign at Stamford Bridge with his contract at Fulham coming to an end. Adarabioyo has signed a four-year contract with Chelsea after completing his medical with the west London club earlier this week.

Following Thiago Silva's departure to join Fluminense, there was an extra space in the squad that opened up. Chelsea see Adarabioyo's ability and composure on the ball, coupled with his capability in the air, as key attributes to help their defence, football.london understands.

Adarabioyo started his career at Manchester City, where he spent a total of 17 years. However, in order to play more football, the London-born defender moved down south to to join Fulham.

He spent four years at Craven Cottage and in that time, he established himself as a promising central defender. With his contract expiring, there were plenty of clubs keeping a close eye on his situation - one of them being Newcastle United, but Chelsea beat off competition from the Magpies to secure his signature on a long-term deal.

football.london was told last week that Adarabioyo's signing has no direct relation to whether Trevoh Chalobah is sold this summer. Chelsea, though, are open to selling the 24-year-old in the upcoming transfer window with any sale accounting for pure profit in the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
